Being interested in water means opening up to a wide range of reflections on life, spirituality, ecology, and ethics. Working with the artist Héloïse POCRY, Nicholas PETTIT and Corinne ROCHET merge painting and dance to explore gesture and abstraction. They collect the emotions and sensations aroused by water, revealing a fluid, supple, and powerful dance. Through a transdisciplinary approach, they transform Héloïse's watercolors and calligraphy into dance scores. Together, they embark on the exploration of central questions: how can we transpose the properties and behaviors of the material "water" into the field of human relations? How could water help improve our interpersonal interactions? How could exploring the material "water" meet our need for abstraction?
Project: The Skin of Water
Corinne ROCHET and Nicholas PETTIT
Corinne Rochet and Nicholas Pettit founded the Cie Utilité Publique in 2003 in Lausanne, now called Pettit*Rochet. In 2006, they distinguished themselves by winning the European Choreography Competition Aérowaves with their duo entitled FIZZ. The following year, they were honored with the Prix de l'Éveil from the Fondation Vaudoise de la Culture. Their current choreographic work focuses on the exploration of the element "water". They consider this element not only as a material, but also as a creative and interpretative vector to question the world through its materiality. Their creations are presented both in Switzerland and internationally. In 2024, they were awarded the Swiss Performing Arts Prize by the Federal Office of Culture
